Thread: Played with SQL & Apache2, now Samba shares don't work and no internet

hello.

weekend playing apache , sql, , samaba shares stopped working.

have windows 7 machine , ubuntu 11.04 machine running samba.

knowledge, worked before messing apache , sql.

can ping both machines (from each other). ubuntu server comes in windows network directory, when try open it, tries communicate , times out, yielding 'network path not exist'.

samba on (sudo service smbd start --- smbd running process xxx).

ubuntu machine cannot see windows network.

also, have ushare running on same machine, windows not see it, seems ubuntu getting lost when trying connect.

disabled ufw test, didn't help.

when testing mysql , apache, modified my.cnf file mysql change binding address (i trying access on network). ended doing funny things, changed bind = localhost.

have restarted machine few times, apache , mysql both stopped.

don't have passwords on samba shares (shouldn't user problem).

ubuntu machine can see workgroup windows computers on, says 'failed retrieve share list server'.

no longer problem, i'll leave here in case stumbles upon it. seems editing of samba config file killed internet on machine (lmhosts culprit, removing allowed me access internet again). i'm "unable mount location" error, i'm guessing i'll able find answer on google.

okay bigger problem (testing go): cannot access internet on machine, can't ping google (it waits), can ping machines on local network.

can't attach config files can't access machine (no flash drive either), can them if necessary (bring out cds!).

- modified nsswitch file has:
hosts: files mdsn4_minimal [notfound=return] wins dns mdns4
, samba config file have
name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host

ideas on check?

also:
other things may have killed internet - downloaded suggested updates date, has there been critical bugs in updates lately kill internet?
server wired switch, goes router.

aaa:
changed ports.conf file in apache add virtual host stuff, have since removed (and restarted), still doesn't work. in conf file have 'listen *:80', , tried listen 80, didn't work either.

okay - internet back! removed lmhosts samba file line, , allowed me on internet. although samba shares still don't work.
