Thread: Questions about the Home directory on re-installation of Ubuntu
hello guys! need advice here. somehow, ubuntu 11.10 pretty scrambled. decided make fresh install. first re-install of ubuntu ever.
questions:
1. happens home directory when re-install? have home directory on separate partition. can point ubuntu installer there , leave home directory 'as is'?
2. though want keep files (music, video, documents), want wipe previous software settings. , wonder if ubuntu take these old settings when point home partition. how can tell ubuntu: 'give me clean, untouched install. keep data files.'
3. if encrypt home directory during installation: have wait whole 200gb partition 'pre-encrypted'? or partition marked as: 'everything goes in here encrypted'? because remember windows/truecrypt once had wait whole day external 1tb drive when followed truecrypt's recommendation pre-encrypt partition.
4. if home partition encrypted after all. , if @ point have fresh install. possible use encrypted home directory fresh install? or there difficulties?
5. , if switch distro? suppose won't problem when switching kubuntu. if switch opensuse instance?
