Thread: Share access problem - Server 11.10
i having issue not quite sure how correct, maybe folks can me find going wrong...
have samba configured works want now. file ownerships , permissions seem functioning intend, 1 exception. user on network running winxp machine wanted files new server. added new user system, created new group , made him part of it, created directory group have rwx access to. works fine , dandy, problem has access of other directories well, , i'm not sure why. if go "network" page on xp machine, can map to, access, read, write, , execute in folder have made browsable regardless of fact user neither owner nor part of group assigned directories. permission directories/files in question set 0770, guests should have no access whatsoever.
current thinking problem lies in "force user" command. using "force user" force new files or directories or files created anywhere within of shares owned 1 user. "forced" user have overall control of files/folders through ownership, , else' permissions decided through use of "group" , "other" permissions.
wondering this, "force user = x" assign ownership of new file/directories "x" regardless of created them (say user "y" in example", or go further, transferring permissions of user "x" user "y", giving them access user "x" has ownership of?
hope being clear in asking here, if not, let me know.
