Yet another thread on Hard Drive setups (sorry!) and file management

hey all,

so have done reading on forums on subject of hard drive setups premiere pro projects, , have found great information out there far. however, hoping advice on specific situation. apologize cluttering forums yet post on hard drive setups. apologize incoming long post!

some basic info on situation.

i'm using both ppro , ae cs6 on windows 7, 64 bit. considering upgrading windows 8 @ point though if recommended. i'm working avchd footage right now, take on higher end formats in future. use external sound recorder have separate audio files.

breaking parts down, looks main components i'm dealing are:

os, programs, windows pagefile, projects, cache/scratch/previews, media, exports, , backup

based on , reading through posts, i've come below minimum disk setup. appreciate , feedback (on both hard drive setup , file management!).

os, programs, windows pagefile

128gb ssd  - samsung 840 pro or similar

projects , media

unknown hdd (any suggestions? maybe can raid in future?)
right folder organization this:

[project folder]
     00_project files
     01_video
          day 1 shoot
[private] - copied on folder sd card in camera
          day 2 shoot
[private] - copied on folder sd card in camera
     02_audio
          day 1 shoot
          day 2 shoot
          sound effects
          music
     03_graphics
     04_outputs
     05_documents

cache/scratch/previews/exports

wd caviar black 1tb - 3 year old hard drive own. place use it? have caviar blacks changed @ in last few years?
would exporting drive cache/scratch/previews slow? hope faster exporting projects , media drive, , there wouldn't room on os , programs drive export there. later copy final finished render [project folder] on projects , media drive housekeeping.

backup

seagate backup plus - 1tb (usb 3.0)
i routinely run backup of projects i'm working on external. (i mirror entire [project folder] of every project i'm working on hard drive after each editing session).

i not against adding more hard drives setup, looking 2 things:

1. don't on complicate "housekeeping" needed project folders , backing things up.
2. seeing decent significant increase in performance cost. not yet in situation on having strict client deadlines meet (i personal projects or videos friends/family, hope 1 day there).

so looking expand, next step should take if can add 1 more hard drive? start see diverging opinions on forum. below few i've either seen or thought of myself:

- separate projects , media onto 2 drives.
- separate scratch (this people mean preview files, correct?) , exports cache.
- run raid 0 projects , media performance increase.

which give me best increased performance if one? i've never touched raid, i'd have more digging on that. i'd rather not take option if involves buying raid controllers. 2 drive raid 0 work in either windows 7 or 8 no hardware needed?

i think that's now! appreciate feedback can give me!

- dan

premiere pro , ae best balanced system. before comment on best incremental gain, i'd have know rest of component list (cpu, gpu, ram, power supply, case, motherboard, etc.)?

regarding project organization, i'm sure many here have various opinions, here's preference ignoring drive or drives put each on:

- <project name> yyyymmdd_name; under project: project, media (under media: audio, video, music), cover artwork, ; in case day 1, 2, etc go under respective audio / video folders

- adobe_scratch (separate project, don't need )

- adobe_cache (separate project, don't need up)

- adobe_exports (separate project, don't need up)

regards,

jim
