Thread: EXT4 to XFS and Partitions

hey guys,

have server running ubuntu 11.10 ext4 filesystem. server has raid0 , on dedicated gbit connection. i'd switch xfs filesystem i've heard it's fast connections.

problem host doesn't have option install xfs filesystem.

current partition setup follows:

2x512mb /boot
2x512mb /swap
remainer /

i've read don't need /swap partition if have amount of memory, server has 4gb, should using /swap? if how big? server host doesn't let me reinstall without /swap partition.

in cases can away without swap space not recommended.

linux use memory caching device i/o , try use memory possable. if can't swap idle pages out of memory degrade performance.

can system memory starvation if have application memory leak. leaked memory idle swapped out freeing real memory.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
