Thread: Help getting started

hi guys,

wonder if can help. i've installed ubuntu 11.10 alongside vista (which breaking , going slow).

ubuntu's functionality , simplicity (so nice work @ computer without whirring away , me having no idea it's doing!) i'm having bit of trouble getting things working want.

first of all, i've installed wine , managed word, powerpoint , excel 2007 installed. when use them though, installations don't seem robust. - they'll crash, or not show menus etc. there better way/more stable way me install these , use them? crossover add more advantages?

also, ubuntu has detected , installed canon printer (pixma ip4300), there no software associated it. when used in windows set defaults how wanted print (draft quality, double sided etc). there way in ubuntu?

also, colours dark when prints. there way fix changing settings, or have pay out icc done?

i'm new linux, don't understand how things other simple things through gui. i'm not familiar how use terminal or different commands are.

i can't printer need may suggest give libre office try replacement m.s. office. has power of other open source , works ubuntu. wine has real problems office. if not option suggest must bite bullet , pay 1 of commercial programs allow run office in linux. cross on office come mind. please give libreoffice chance first.
