Thread: Just Installed Ubuntu, Have a Few Questions

so installed ubuntu sole operating system on computer, , i've run few snags. i'm using compaq laptop designed windows vista. wireless seems work fine, , computer starts extremely quickly.

1. computer freezes up, , screen becomes darker. can't until screen brightens again. happens if try more 3 things @ once, can come @ time.

2. can't use microphone or webcam anymore. there software can install fix problem?

3. dvd player seems have stopped working, because lost decoder. special place can find something, or decoder do?

edit: i'm running 11.10

1. understand, processes becoming "unresponsive" , windows darkens. might occur on slow machines. (that's windows adds "(not responding)" not responding app's window header).

2. did try configure mic alsamixer?

3. don't understand mean. ubuntu should play dvd video well.
