Thread: need help rying to recover encrypted home directory

hi,

lost root partition still have ecrypted /home. i'm trying decrypt , recover data. have original passphrase and, of course encrypted /home directory.

encrypted long time ago , recall did not use standard options of aes/16 bit. prevents me using new ecryptfs-recover-private. used plaintext_passthru , filename_encryption.

tried procedure @ https://help.ubuntu.com/community/en..._data_manually helped lot. can mount , top level filenames shown correctly, cannot access files. says "cannot access xxx: no such file or directory". can decrypt filenames not files.

tried repeatedly remounting options cipher , key sizes believing if got right 1 decrypt files had no luck.

checked syslog , found there error every time tried mount: "error initializing key module [/usr/lib/ecryptfs/libecryptfs_key_mod_gpg.so]; rc = [-22]". maybe has it.

, ideas try next appreciated.

solved.

went , found instructions followed generate encrypted home dir. when did there no easy utilities there available now. created test disk under same conditions. piecing info test , parts of script ecryptfs-recover-private came solution. after 4 attempts matched initial cipher/key length , golden.

did think funny had "ecryptfs-add-passphrase --fnek" before each attempt key no longer available.
