Thread: Networking/Setting up a share

i finished installing 11.10 on computer has (2) 80 gb hard drives , wireless networking. goal set media server our home media.

wireless working fine, pulls ip address, have internet access, i'm having trouble getting computer on our existing windows network.

want use second drive file storage, i've set share in samba, can't see share on windows network. can't pull windows network on machine, getting "failed retrieve share list server" when try.

i've modified smb.conf file reflect windows workgroup.

missing?

well, i'm halfway there. working on machine @ work, , not work on network.

took home last night, changed settings wireless , changed workgroup name, , showed on network, , copy files it. network @ home same network setup @ work, same kind of security , encryption, , didn't change other wireless ssid , security mode.

still can't read windows computers, if has suggestions on can @ there, i'd appreciate it.

so, in summary, can pull ubuntu shares in network places on windows xp computer, copy windows ubuntu shares, ubuntu machine still won't connect windows computers.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
