Thread: Slow performance because of monitor? New installation

hello guys,

i'm new linux , forum, apologise if doing wrong.

decide install linux, finished after several hours. monitor detection wrong, resolution good, catalyst options grey'd out.

straight point:-

ati hdd 6xxxx x2
amd 64 1100tt
gigabyte motherboard
lg monitor ( thats issue )

happened:-

after installation couldnt boot or log unity.

1)switched terminal, update, upgrade

2)upgrade didnt include linux headers images , software-center, did sudo install on these.

3)i logged on, downloaded latest ati drivers site, installed them, reboot fine.

4)the monitor detection totally wrong. have lg monitor , got " goldstar company ltd22" " display detection.

5)at catalyst, monitor tab grey, cant change , resolution set 4000x4000, pc runs on normal 1920

pc runs ok, not fast, dash takes seconds pop, firefox buggy, although chrome looks work ok. navigation on windows kinda buggy well. not fast responses.

think performance lacks bit, because of monitor issue.

believe?

xorg.conf file:-

section "serverlayout"
identifier "aticonfig layout"
screen 0 "aticonfig-screen[0]-0" 0 0
endsection

section "module"
endsection

section "monitor"
identifier "aticonfig-monitor[0]-0"
option "vendorname" "ati proprietary driver"
option "modelname" "generic autodetecting monitor"
option "dpms" "true"
endsection

section "device"
identifier "aticonfig-device[0]-0"
driver "fglrx"
busid "pci:1:0:0"
endsection

section "screen"
identifier "aticonfig-screen[0]-0"
device "aticonfig-device[0]-0"
monitor "aticonfig-monitor[0]-0"
defaultdepth 24
subsection "display"
viewport 0 0
depth 24
endsubsection
endsection

if @ selection monitor replace vendorname lg , modelname appropriate, solve issue?

had terrible time far, feedback more experienced, cant stand sit 5 hours pc solve it.

, google search on iphone makes eyes bleeding!!!

in advance

edit:-

lspci | grep vga

01:00.0 vga compatible controller: ati technologies inc barts xt [ati radeon hd 6800 series]
04:00.0 vga compatible controller: ati technologies inc barts xt [ati radeon hd 6800 series]

edit:-
despite installed ati drivers official site, @ system info got graphics: vesa: barts drivers. normal? @ additional drivers show both not activated.

graphic driver issue after maybe?

i suggest not installing video drivers until monitor issue solved. please tell exact model of monitor. lg makes hundreds of different monitors. how monitor connected computer?

ubuntu installation should take 20 or 30 minutes, if took hours, there terribly wrong computer. version of ubuntu did install?

can't figure out "ati hdd 6xxxx x2" is. video card 6850 or 6870?

detailed description of hardware, open terminal window , enter these commands:
sudo lshw > myconfig.txt
gedit myconfig.txt

first command creates text file, second command edits can read content. tell claims monitor be.
