Thread: Firefox won't open after 10.04 update

as in title. firefox did work on first being installed after adding no-script, better privacy, add search bar, , downthemall. put in none free flash player it. stopped working after update yesterday. had been working fine few weeks until then. far rememember took important security updates , declined recomended updated included weather. disable recomended updates hadn't got round yet install recent , it's been christmas etc. have no repositories installed.
on trying open firefox either via applications menu or icon on top bar cursor spinning "i'm trying something" bit , firefox tab appears on lower bar tab disapears , cursor returns pointer mode.
totally removed firefox via synaptic , reinstalled it, caused repeate of the above fail open.
put in seamonkey which, oddly mozilla, works fine , i'm using post this. bug not utterly critical me though i'd rather use firefox easier add search engines via add search bar. default browser on fresh install of ubuntu if bug general it's bit of problem.
whilst uninstalling firefox noticed libweather ect stuff i'd declined during update there anyway ( have come in earlier, not sure ). thinking may have tried uninstall wanted remove gnome-panels applets, evolution , gnome desktop didn't.
thing noted week or video has been stalling visually ( sound keeps running ), persistant fault seems develop week or 2 after fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 on machine irrespective of do, common vlc, totem , flash.

latter fault 1 have banged head against time , mentioned in case helps diagnose firefox problem, use ubuntu video player long lasts after fresh install , use puppy if want watch films.

start firefox in safe mode terminal:

if starts, have add-on issue. start disabling global menu bar integration extension.

if doesn't start, try clean profile. can create new profiles profile manager.

please report errors on terminal.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
