Thread: nVidia or AMD for Linux?

hi,
want buy new graphic card linux (kubuntu 11.10) machine, have questions:
1) better buy amd or nvidia linux? i'am thinking amd hd6950 or nvidia gtx 560 ti.
2) company has better optimalized drivers linux now? heard amd had not drivers, years later.
3) of these chipset better play games under wine?

please , write experiences

i read news present drivers. there many problems ati drivers few years ago, that's true. @ time, when these gpu made ati. ati wasn't frindly linux. ati purchased amd. presents "ati" graphics made amd , tries better drivers - hey communicate open source developers. tries improve proprietary drivers also. doing work, nvidia's proprietary drivers still better.
, open source drivers: amd pretty now, climb 80% of performance of proprietary drivers.
nvidia open source drivers are't good.

so, if want have open source stable drivers, take ati. can have prospects future.
if want better performance under linux , wine, closed source, take nvidia.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
