Thread: Ubuntu Remote Log in via VNC Security Question

hello awesome ubuntu linux community,

start off thanking of such great platform , support.

background issue:

have ubuntu 10.04 lts- lucid lynx , required remote log in. had problems solved them installing application called “vino”. able remote log in workstation.

when remote log in desktop purple bubble pops on top right of screen network information machine remote logging 10.04 workstation. fine , expected.

here concern:

yesterday starring @ desktop , noticed bubble pop , go away. need said, i not logging in machine.

1. there log keeps track of requests remote log in 10.04 machine?

2. security measure's should taking make sure see/monitor requests , connections machine?

3. possibilities machine can have worm or hijacked?

in advanced advice.

i don't know remote login , vnc, when find log file, install conky, , have list latest entries of logs.

syslog, ufw log , 1 more (can't remember, not @ home).

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
