Thread: Window manager dies during 10.04 -> 10.10 upgrade

during 10.04 lts -> 10.10 upgrade, find myself update grub dialog. unfortunately, it's action buttons behind upgrade progress dialog, , have lost window decorations (so can't change window stacking order). seems indicate window manager has died, because can use mouse not keyboard.

upgrade appears dead in water inability tell grub upgrade go ahead. can launch terminal, can't type it. :(

suggestions besides reboot?

on reboot, suggestions next? (in absence of response, in few hours i'll reboot , @ how recover, updating thread.)

tips.

i've filed bug report, describes problem , resolution.

briefly, resolution hour or of clicking , poking , typing no effect, until mysteriously upgrade understood respond , started again. unsatisfying response ok outcome.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
