1970's type style

how create (link) style text using illustrator? i've used 3d tool in illustrator, doesn't want. want text head on, looking @ audience, having effect coming in left, giving effect moved in left.

the text there might embossed gradient, , diffuse drop shadow or something. 'effect' behind load of warped prisms, drawn separately.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
