Thread: Can't access directories in home/

hello,

have backed needed files windows 7 partition in internal sata (of "broken laptop" - won't boot).

but, windows xp on machine doesn't see linux stuff, figured i'd run ubuntu 10.04 (for post) live cd see partitions. turns out can, after cd'ing to
code:
/media/b1d7dd6b-db4f-4137-9c03-a37cb21b03da/home
, fail access either of (from ls)
code:
user xtheunknown0
ie. after
code:
cd user/
i get
code:
bash: cd: user: permission denied.
from nautilus, there silvery thick cross on bottom right corner of user folder.

i'd backup user/ ; how???

how b1d7dd6b-db4f-4137-9c03-a37cb21b03da drive partitioned? can check gparted see if it's ext3, ext4 or maybe ntfs of fat?

suppose it's ext4, means files have permissions. can see permissions of user directory?

code:
ls -l /media/b1d7dd6b-db4f-4137-9c03-a37cb21b03da/home/user
