i'm not complete noob, don't know ubuntu. i've used version 9.04 while back. tried other versions. used 11.04, never liked it. also, because of hardware (amd/ati) @ time, compatibility iffy. wireless bad (belkin).

i'm using laptop instead. dell xps l702x intel core i5-2540m (2.6ghz - 2 cores 4 threads), nvidia gt550m, 6gb of 1333mhz dual channel ddr3, 500gb western digital (caviar? wdc?) 7,200rpm, 16mb cache hdd. i'm using intel wireless b/g/n card. compatibility install miles better old gaming amd/ati pc, , subtle changes in functionality , appearance on 11.10 appreciated. however, here problems.

first of all. if i'm typing, quite frequently, @ random, cursor line in text move @ random few lines, or further first , typing continue point, destroying sentence. highly irritating. also, it'll randomly select entire text in box , type it'll clear (therefore use ctrl+z). way solve this? also, box appear @ bottom right , text end being typed in there. did notice text issue can caused little typing line jumping cursor left on text, far i'm aware, i'm not touching touch pad. never happens in windows.

also, there way ubuntu 11.10 can save brightness settings? seems reset time.

text better handled larger resolutions, "normal" adequate 1600x900 resolution 17" screen. however, although i've altered text on firefox, there no actual default full page zoom option can see, zoom both text , images, unless use ctrl+mouse wheel, don't using. reminds me of how chrome was, years, on large resolutions on pc.

battery management, isn't great either. downclocking , overclocking handled bios, surely, max 3.34 hours of battery life on 9 cell battery bit disappointing. when doing basic tasks or using msn on windows 7 (which pre-installed , intend keep, along recovery partition) can 6-7 hours. playing music , im'ing gets me 4-5 hours. flash video/audio , instant-messaging gives me 3-4 hours. know may not solved may worth noting future versions.

also, whether can helped or not don't know, functionality of synaptics touch pad dependent on boot up. mean is, if press short cut disable it, amber light turns on. supposed mean it's off, on windows. if have off , amber light on , os starts, it'll function amber light on. if use shortcut, it'll turn light off, means should start working, turns off.

skype 2.2 beta opens , closes itself, when click on it. meaning have open twice. may software issue though.

i'm pleased see ubuntu becoming little simpler, each , every time new version comes out. new levels of compatibility appreciated.

note. i'm using wubi. it's easier, don't ever want risk messing partitions when involve windows 7 , recovery partition. games, paid software such fraps (not minecraft though since it's java ) , hardware based windows usage. reason continue dual boot.
