Thread: Long Term Support LTS release cycle

the announcement future lts desktop versions supported 5 years wise. can start 10.04?
reasons:
1. if have 50 ubuntu machines in busy organisation ours, testing , training, takes 18 months deploy release. supporting 10.04 longer gives valuable time job properly.
2. 10.04 server has 5 year support. desktop not such big ask.
3. crucially, change unity big one: needs more more time techie chaps familiar before can think rolling out in office. it's not ready technically, nor ui yet acceptable.
4. ubuntu needs name solid reliability , hardware support on time. 10.04 getting there things current atheros network cards or sandy bridge. need longer our current, competent , accepted lts.

you'd have ask canonical, somehow doubt so. 12.04 seems mark big change canonical.

change unity not big one, really; it's bit of different interface, takes hour or used (especially if have tutorial -- see signature). , still have access menus dash, anyway.

think unity less of change gnome 2 (or gnome 3) windows 8 windows 7.
