Thread: Problems with the microphone

hi.
i've been on place trying find solution this. i've installed ubuntu 11.10, added xubuntu nicer look. managed microphone work in audacity because allowed me select possible inputs. however, in application doesn't allow menu can't record sound. i'm guessing used system default click on speaker icon (task tray), click on sound settings, click input tab, , see connector on "analog line-in". tried plugging microphone other ports no luck. took @ drop down list connector , found "analog microphone". chose , second later reset "analog line-in".
options in audacity follows:
*sb audigy 2 [sb0240]: mic capture (hw:0,1)
sb audigy 2 [sb0240]: multichannel capture/pt playback (hw:0,2)
sb audigy 2 [sb0240]: p16v (hw:0,4)
pulse
default
(* selected)

options in sound settings follows:
analog video
analog input
analog line-in
analog microphone / microphone 2
analog microphone / microphone 1

no matter select resets analog line-in.
there way unlock this?

/edward

run alsamixer in terminal, muted, lowered volumes.

if doesn't work install pavucontrol , in inputs or recording, @ bottom select apps.
