Thread: wget not connecting to internet

i lubuntu 11.10 , connect internet through proxy server. connection working firefox not command line applications such wget or axel. error message wget is:

with wget:
resolving xxxx.xxx.xx.... failed: name or service not known.
wget: unable resolve host address `xxxx.xxx.xxx'

axel:
axel: unable connect server xxxx.xxx.xxx:80
(axel appends ":80" urls)
reason , how can solve this? how can setup proxy server settings in lubuntu? (i have done in firefox may not whole system- there no option in system tools, unlike ubuntu).

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
