Thread: Why did you upgrade?

i've been reading various posts in last couple of weeks regarding upgrading , dreaded unity. see lots of complaints stuff not working anymore, stuff having replaced, settings having adjusted, etc. amazes me though number of people have said that worked fine until upgrade!! technician, don't normally recommend upgrades until it's absolutely necessary! include broken (beyond saving or repair) components or dead comp. here question upgraders everywhere. why did upgrade?? was new piece of software going change life? have lemming-like tendancies , feel the right thing do. did voices in head scream "just it". how sharing of reasons folks. me, 11.04 offered 2 things. better/easier set-up of n wireless goodies, , option switch , forth between unity , classic desktops, until i'm comfortable unity. (p.s. of date 11.10 available, i'm not considering upgrading yet, because use, works)

people new. users here not 100 people organizations, nerds laptop or desktop. buy newest parts released, scrap old stuff run web servers. others want 10 year old pc still run. want shiny , new because promises better performance or new shiny interfaces. if new install goes bad, dust off older copy , install that.

linux environment pushes upgrades. through forums, users urge upgrades on 1 another, using statements newer version might fix glitch.

part of reason choose not run ubuntu upgrade cycle. many things upgrade @ 1 time don't see goes wrong. moved arch because rolling release gives user opportunity know simple version upgrade 1 package can do.
