Unable to view websites after downloading upgrades as prompted

youtube.com , shutterfly.com both prompting me download 'latest' flash player version (11) in order view websites properly.  have repeatedly downloaded , repeatedly received 'download successful' message.  however, neither website work - still says must install latest download......please help!  can't see videos or other animation on shutterfly.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
