createjs adding mc to stage

hi used quite bit of as3 word not quite time (guess why???).  having play flash pro6 , toolkit create js. have worked through platypus example , kinda left out things wanted know real easy stuff! example want add mc stage js --- how? bit works ... tried various combinations of

stop(); var fredd = new fred(); stage.addchild(fredd); fredd.x=100; fredd.y=100; /* js this.stop(); var fredd = new fred(); this.stage.addchild(fredd); */

 

but kept getting comment empty symbols , helpful reminder timeline starting @ 1. feel sure easy,  can't figure out! perhaps there real beginners resource somewhere missing? thanks

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
