pdf will not convert properly

i converting pdf version of resume, done on mac.  wanted convert pdf word file, edit it.   no longer have mac or file on original computer.   working on pc in office

 

i trying convert pdf subscribed exportpdf.    able choose file, run conversion, when open it jumble of symbols , letters.

 

any suggestions?

 

hoping didn't waste $20.00

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
