Re-Importing DNGs which were exported from CR2s

going forward, i'm sure issue solved workflow change, now, have small problem:

 

i shoot ton of images (20,000+ per year) , process in lightroom. have workflow export .cr2 originals dng archiving external drive, free space on local drive. once they're copied over, delete folders mac's hard drive via finder, leaves previews still searchable within lightroom. great searching , referencing archived stuff don't need re-edit.

 

however, when need re-edit something, once copy folder exernal drive original location on local hd editing in lr, lightroom doesn't recognize files automatically since have different file extension. must click each thumbnail's question mark , point file in question. lightroom will not apply same action nearby photos.

 

any thoughts on how speed rather addressing each image, one-by-one?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
