Thread: Flexible encryption of entire volumes in Ubuntu

dear all,

have laptop (ubuntu 11.10) sensitive personal , business data on 2 partitions on same hard drive. therefore encrypt data. ideal system this:

  1. my entire hard drive encrypted (e.g. not want forced choose put folders in encrypted part , others not)
  2. upon successful login (of user) volumes on drive auto-mounted decrypted (e.g. login password of user identical decryption key)
  3. i not suffer performance loss
  4. the encryption of drive can take place data on (e.g. no formatting during encryption)


not sure whether @ possible. suggestions systems come close welcome.

have looked using truecrypt, have not found auto-mounting procedure on login (point 2). seems require formatting of drive (point 4).

in advance tips!

you can set ubuntu full-disk encryption unlocks @ boot, need specify @ install time.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
