Thread: Unity doesn't kick in at login.

i start 11.10 installation, , login unity environment, unity environment doesn't load; instead 'file edit view go' ect. , thereon can't anything. no unity sidebar, or applets on top bar appear, , thereon, need load terminal through bookmarks, , use command

unity &> /dev/null & disown
to start unity.

can help?

the log in screen controlled called lightdm, hands on control of desktop compiz compositing or window manager.

have disabled unity plugin in compiz configuration settings manager? have tried set of compiz effects? of them cause conflict unity. try revert changes have made. may need login ubuntu 2d this.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
