Illustrator opens .ai file as .pdf

hi all,

 

i've made changes .ai file, , consequently saved pdf copy without preserving illustrator editing capabilities. still have original .ai file, reason when open illustrator shows "open pdf" dialog box, in asks me choose page open...obviously went wrong.

 

has clue on why happens , how can undo whatever changes have been done?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
