Keyframe challenge: a test of two methods of using keyframes
this extension of previous of mine dealing keyframes. threads bit messy after while, i'm going summarise previous thread, , offer challenge. thread dealt suggestion of "set keyframes" button, , respondents thought dubious idea. that's fine – no 1 arguments concrete reasons why such button undesirable. seemed keen keep existing workflow. that's fine too. reason posted gain bit more understanding keyframes. couldn't see problem such button – , still don't.
so, issue challenge , way arguments against "set keyframes" button.
the challenge
i have set simple animation in premiere using square. animations called square animation 01 , square animation 02 , can downloaded in zip file here (140 kb). detailed description of how set animations contained in pdf within zip file. animation described below , uses 3 parameters of motion (position, scale, rotation). time indicated t00-02, meaning 0 2 seconds.
- t00-02: square in centre of frame.
- t02-04: scale 50% in situ.
- t04-06: move left.
- t06-08: move right.
- t08-10: leave in place , rotate 45º.
- t10-12: lock in place.
- t12-14: snap original @ 12 seconds , lock.
square animation 1 uses technique seems favoured people responded last post, whereas square animation 2 simulates use of "set keyframes" button. in case, former took me 10 minutes set , working; had ahead @ each waypoint , work out how lock in present state. latter took me 3 minutes, , did go each waypoint, set square, lock-in setting keyframes. slight difficulty snap change @ 0.12.
i'd know experienced users think of 2 methods. open files; run them see do; check out keyframe setup; delete keyframes both animations , set animation using both methods.
i'm not trying prove here. want gain in-depth understanding of keyframes, , best way me learn engaging experienced users , asking feedback. once start using premiere, expect using keyframes lot, want thorough understanding of it. if see problematic "set keyframes" method, want know. please concrete. talk actual, specific examples, preferably using animations have provided.
i don't have time deal evening. time bed. however, have designed a set of tasks not pertinent issue. squares not problem. curves problem.
if moved picture in picture across screen using sharp right angles, scream not organic looking. , right. bezier curves tough enough 2 keyframes let alone 3 or more.
design task square (or rectangle in case) moves lower left hand corner lower right hand corner passing through top middle. , 3 keyframes. try more three. think technical term "oops". want delete keyframe.
then second project, take square middle left middle right in shape of sine wave using minimum number of keyframe. nice , easy. how many did take go down then down? can't provide picture without giving away answer.
others may comment, think might asking wrong questions. think great asking until 1 of damn wobbles , find erasing keyframes , starting over, won't quite grok all. best bet practice keyframes. learn them. friend. then, if still think should turn on automatically, can discuss means organic , how lengths of handles change bezier curves , difference between continuous , other types of curves.
just don't use straight lines - that? oh, sure, sometimes.
oh, start using keyframes temporally spacially. gets interesting. ease in , ease out. in between in way. use first example moving hill slower , slower though getting tired, pick speed faster , faster slide down hill. don't forget pause @ top of hill. that's organic.
let me know think of answer. if don't it, please tell me why. , if have questions, feel free ask. have day job please don't expect immediate answers.
