PDF files on FTP will not open correctly

our pdf files open fine local hard disks, , http locations.  however, having trouble opening pdf files ftp server.  after double-clicking on file, adobe 'grey' background loads, , nothing else.  @ first time opened fine in computers, afterwards not open. if download files server, same file opens fine. have tried in different os xp, windows 7, windows 8 different browsers. same problems occurred.

in cases, installed adobe reader adobe reader 9 , above(9, 10&11). after got 1 solution disable "protected mode" in reader settings. if disable protected mode, fine.

but issue is, have provide pdf files our customers through our website. we cannot disable in customer's pc. alternate solution problem?

why problem occurs? how can overcome error?

i cannot reproduce problem reader 11.0.2 in firefox 20.0.1 or ie8 on windows xp (protected mode enabled).

i have no problems access mutliple times.
