Thread: Changing primary username and usergroup results in error in login?

i began linux (fedora) few months ago , installed ubuntu on laptop other day. new user, named primary user account after computer name comes out mypc@mypc. i've gone through recovery mode, remounted disk read/write, , modded username , groupname reflect username running following commands:

code:
mount -o remount,rw / usermod -l myusername -m -d /home/myusername mypc groupmod -n myusername mypc
the commands ran without issue, after rebooting found unable log in. see login screen , real name , type password. after hitting return, black screen text appear momentarily, disappear fast me read text in it. when vanished @ login screen though had not typed password yet.

i've managed fix issue renaming both username , groupname way were. leads me believe names influence issue.

have 2 questions more experienced linux/ubuntu users. first, why renaming primary user , group cause me unable log in? second, how can more time see black screen (which presume has error text need read) or how can change user , group name without causing issue?

thanks.

bump, use help.
