Thread: computer screwed up, "dd" command related?
i screwed computer badly.
whatever reason, chose copy-paste on internet terminal (it said make game work), , when didn't work used "sudo" (looking back, realize how stupid was) 5 minutes later, browser stopped working, restarted , wouldn't turn on.
don't remember was, remember part
and, looking found thinkcode:dd if=/dev/sda
i don't know of means, site found on said "zeroes out disk partition"code:dd if=/dev/zero of =/dev/sda
there way fix this? can run on livecd, want know if there way recover of files (mainly ones in home, don't have else on computer)
when turn on, goes past bios screen (it says lenovo) , blank screen.
livecd slow heck, can re-install os no problem (i think) want home folder
also, of music, movies, etc. on external hard drive , they're safe.

it seems if have overwritten content of hdd (/dev/sda first hard disk) zeroes. depending on how long run, has killed more or less on hdd. there special programs recover deleted or overwritten files
