Thread: The problem with Empathy and Unity

i'm beginning unity more , more. doesn't work right (yes, thing) way in unity launcher (doesn't) remind empathy conversation.

1. friend sends chat message.
2. envelope, @ top right, lights up.
3. click on , see there message waiting in empathy.
4. click on , chat window opens.
5. reply , minimise window while continue working.
6. when friend replies back, unity icon wiggles, telling replied.
7. if away desk, have missed icon wiggle , there nothing informing me replied. not envelope lit up.

time envelope seems light when new conversation started. , icon gets little number when new conversation started else.

not particularly intuitive. know if developers evolving obvious notification flaw?

case in point.

installed pidgin , removed empathy. pidgin notifies me correctly (as per previous post). integration seems equally polished (more or less), , pidgin's speed bit snappier.

confuses me why pidgin - isn't default app - gets notifications bit more intuitively correct.

here's hoping next release of empathy.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
