Thread: "only root can unmount" - how to change permission(?)

i replaced failing media hdd new one, , had permission(?) issues - had access new drive root, untill ran
code:
sudo chown -r <username>:<username> <drive name>
current issue drive can not unmount it! error message saying root can unmount dev/sdb1 from...

pretty single user home computer, single user account on it, , i'd rid of restrictions when comes accessing files, on media hdd. command need run make so?

running ubuntu lucid.

how mounting drive in first place? if youa re doing through fstab (like should drive want mounted on every boot), add "user" mount options allow users mount , unmount drive.

comes "single user" thing, if machine connected internet pretty can forget single-user machines. @ best it's machine trying keep user. , user/group systems, permissions, password requests , such means of doing that. generic rule computer connected internet (or other non-private network) should handled multi-user system.
