Thread: Webcam not working on Google/ Gmail Chat

please let me know if not correct forum question.

voice/video chat browser plugin in gmail not working. when try make video call, crashes. in google chrome, manifested error message: "the following plug-in has crashed: /opt/google/talkplugin/libnpgtpo3dautoplugin.so" in firefox (8.0) manifested error "google talk video accelerator plugin has crashed." running ubuntu 11.04 (x86).

gmail detects webcam (logitech c525) , appears under drop-down menu in settings > chat > camera. name has little video camera in chat window. when try chat, audio works screen remains blank. cannot see anyone, , cannot see me. however, when try chat without webcam, can see others if provide video feed.

what i've tried:
- trying in both google chrome , firefox
- testing webcam video/audio in cheese , skype. works fine in both.
- upgrading new v 2.5.6.0 google talk plugin (prev v 2.2)
- turning 'video chat enhancements' lab on , off
- turning 'advanced attachment features' on , off (who knows, suggested it)
- disabling/enabling plugin /opt/google/talkplugin/libnpgoogletalk.so
- disabling/enabling plugin /opt/google/talkplugin/libnpgtpo3dautoplugin.so
- defining libgl_always_software=1 in /opt/google/talkplugin/envvars (this supposed bypass opengl , hardware acceleration per http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-error-853546/)

ideas?

any takers?
