Does "Highlight Existing Fields" speed up conversion of large PDFs to Excel?

i trying large (300 page) pdf report full of charts , tables converted excel format. tried convert entire report , has been 20 minutes , conversion timer still spinning. in future, should use "hightlight existing fields" button in upper left corner highlight tables want speed process? or, if not, there way save specific pages new pdf file , convert those?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
