I cannot see my selection as I transform/scale it

i selected layer in order scale it. when click link between height , width , change percentage or down object i'm trying scale disappears. can see edges , transform tool 'handles' layer not there. i've never had issue in other version of photoshop. heck going on?

 

doesn't matter whether use percentage tool in upper palette of photoshop or shift , drag scale. scaling object becomes invisible. makes hard see i'm doing when things invisible.

update graphics driver or turn off opengl/ opencl in prefs.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
