i have no clue doing here. loving feel of ubuntu far. using because cursor no longer works on microsoft vista.

have no clue how tell version of ubuntu running.
trying install programs new smartphone cd , trying past "not exectuable" error, .exe program read-only , cannot change it. have been here in forums trying figure out do, don't know terminal or command line is. need start absolute beginning, obviously.
help!

ok, hello , welcome forums.

number 1 lesson, ubuntu not windows. familiar .exe files not work on ubuntu , way deal programs , packages totally different.

ubuntu seem confusing, if stick @ hang of it.

now, recommend take @ beginners guidance here.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
