Thread: create non sparse qcow2 disk image

i have come figure out qemu-img create sparse qcow2 images. tried creating raw file converting convert converts sparse file. don't why during original install using virt-install doesn't this.

trying add disk image windows 2008 server guest. not see image @ full size @ original nothing.

there way create non sparse qcow2 file?

thanks!

i believe may have figured out through more reading , experimenting.

created original virtual machine using virt-install indicating qcow2 file. in reading , looking on file several times driver type set raw virt-install. qcow2 file in raw format?

while using qemu-img testing did following

created 2 1 gb files. first created test1.qcow2 format qcow2
test1.raw format raw, raw file showed 1gb when using ls -l -h command qcow2 did not. converted test1.qcow2 file test2.raw showed 1gb. converted test1 raw file test2.qcow2 , no longer listed 1gb smaller.

added converted raw qcow2 image xml file driver type qcow2 defined , started not start when changed raw worked fine. added original qcow2 file created using qemu-img driver type qcow2 , worked fine.

when raw file converted qcow2 not same creating qcow2 file?

though specified qcow2 file when using virt-install makes raw format file ?

bit confused this.

thanks!
