Thread: Prohibitive Installation Times

i sure query has been made searches aren't coming anything.

having time difficulty u 11.10 installs. take unreasonable amount of time complete. can download iso , burn disk in less time it's taking me install.

know internet problem. earlier version of u (8 & 9) install , 11 insistent on downloading language packs , other things internet , taking forever so. realize have slow dsl. 1.5 on wireless cannot believe gets bogged down point takes close 2 hours install 11.10. don't know 11.10 requiring internet have 3 different internet download situations slow down installs incredibly. know 1 language packs. there's downloads 50-60 smaller files earlier in install. then, when think install complete else starts downloading , may take 30 minutes that.

when install positively not selecting option update newer available files during install. not selecting music/multimedia 3rd party files. uniquely, after installation completes boot , update newer files. there 200 + updates available take less time download , install initial install takes.

uniquely, never have speed difficulty downloading large iso's or other large amounts of info completed installs. because have slower broadband take while it's within reason.

there other way can lessen installation time? don't mind taking while couple of hours way much. i've tried several machines on 2 week time period , results same.

if remember correctly installer asks if want skip step (downloading latest packages), skip it. if doesn't ask unplug network cable. takes me ten minutes install ubuntu , typically don't have network plugged in during install.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
