Thread: Recovering from a hardrive image

hey guys, first time poster here , relative newcomer @ that.


doing tinkering testing moving image of laptop onto desktop. following guide posted here howto: create, recover , automate system images - ubuntu forums


compressed image onto usb drive , using knoppix wrote image onto desktop(dell inspiron laptop , desktop, can more details if important). @ first not let me access drive. upon rebooting desktop had every file laptop contained. appeared success, access files laptop. trying boot hard drive gave me unable load operating system error.

using ubuntu live cd have changed here? driver issue? desktop struggling find boot from? in bios listing correct , hard drive @ least.


other odd notes , questions:

laptop hard drive 220 gigs. desktop 320. image written desktop ended processing 240. should have formatted partition match size? 20 gigs coming from?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
