Thread: Removing an old Kernel.
i have upgraded system (ubuntu 11.10 x64) , have 2 kernels on grub screen, new 1 3.0.0.14 old 1 3.0.0.12.
searching guide show how safely remove old kernel because don't need it, came across website
http://connectwww.com/how-to-remove-...e-manager/614/
says can remove via synaptic package manager, have search kernel typing linux-image on quick search field, find old 1 green selection boxes (showing installed) , right click choose mark complete removal.
i'm confused here.
have found many other images, linux-image-3.0.0-12-virtual, linux-image-3.0.0-13-server, linux-image-3.0.0-12-vir , many other images.
i'm not expert , don't want miss anything, safe remove old 1 selecting linux image (linux-image-3.0.0-12-generic 3.0.0-12.20 )with green box , choose mark complete guide said?
thanks.
i keep previous kernel backup in case blows current one.
takes bit of space on disk.
there no rush rid of it. when newer kernel in future update, use synaptic remove .12
in fedora can run utility console find , delete old kernels -- except recent previous 1 if use default flags. seems fedora developers think keeping 1 kernel wise idea, too.
