redaction boxes not aligned with text selected for redaction

i trying use acrobat professional 8.3.1 mac os x (mountain lion, current version 10.8.3) redact text on scanned bank statements have been processed ocr. when select snippet of text redaction highlighted box not align actual text on screen. it's if redaction tool sees text in different font id or size 1 displayed ... finds text, highlighted area appears take less space actual text. causes "highlighted area" appear line above actual line, or redaction box doesn't align selected text  correctly. when "applied" redaction test, result looked saw before redaction. idea what's causing this, , can do? need redactions fast time-sensitive legal submission.

 

i don't know if matters scanned documents neat hand held scanner, worked perfectly, , exported docs pdfs.

i think might have figured out. i'm wondering if looking @ in acrobat picture of text, if i'm selecting actual text on sort of hidden layer. explain why the position of cursor when dragged on text appears not in sync text seeing. it's confusing, wonder if that's how neat processes "ocr" when exports documents , saves them pdfs. if case, need use different ocr software process pdfs?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
