Thread: Boot Loader Menu not visible - Dual HDD

to start new linux.

computer has 3 hard drives.
sda: 160gb winxp
sdb: 40gb ubuntu 11.10
sdc: 160gb data

installed ubuntu on 40gb drive , told put boot loader on same drive. when boot not boot loader menu. after bios screens error message monitor reads:


1: analog input
cannot display video mode


after 30 seconds computer continue boot ubuntu.


can change boot disk in bios , boot winxp drive no problems, , change , boot ubuntu well.


how fix boot loader not have go bios every time want change operating systems?

open terminal , enter:

sudo update-grub

should simple. command let grub boot loader take over.

also, remember of windows need windows restore cd restore windows boot if ever decide remove ubuntu. sure have one.

"cannot display video mode" sounds separate problem

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
