Thread: Dual Boot Problem-Windows7/Ubuntu 11.10

ok, absolutely new ubuntu, after wasting 2 days have earned enough know how play os. installed ubuntu wubi thingy , when trying install softwares (not made ubuntu) wine found out installation procedure gave me error regarding file being unsafe , cannot recognize it. searched forums , found out problem 'permission' of file let 'executable'.

solution pretty simple 1 should go properties of file , change permission 'all executable', did work out me i.e. whenever try 'tick/check' executable part 'tick' remove automatically.

found few solutions new problem, didnt work out me. stumble upon solution 1 should first copy file 'home' folder of ubuntu , allow me change permissions, , guess worked!!

installed quite few programs until while trying ms office 2007 found out presented new error regarding disk space being low. again searched , found out 3 gb of space allotted ubuntu although during wubi install had changed destination partition 'c' (windows partition) 'e' empty partition.

anywaz, solution found workable 'migrate wubi install partition', decided it. took thread of yours:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1519354

during procedure received error destination partition has formatted in linux format. searched bit more , found way it.

used 'gparted' format 'd' drive (an empty partition) in 'ext4' format , succeeded , 'migrated' wubi install it. again successful.

restarted laptop , worked fine, showed me both options @ boot (whether go inti ubuntu or windows 7). installed few chat clients (pidget, gyati etc), didnt find them suitable removed them , settled 'empathy' (it installed).

, done decided shut down laptop befor thought idiea login windows see if things alright. when restarted laptop, utter surprise pc directly booted ubuntu without giving me boot secreen, , showed me grub screen options of ubuntu, ubuntu previous version, ubuntu recovery, , memory tests.

stoned!!

luck after little search found out using following command problem may solved:

sudo update-grub

used in terminal , voila, grub started showing me windows loader thing in option in addition ubuntu.

prayed , booted windows , after black/blank screens logged windows, , man relief!!

happy, , thankful gurus on forum (though sudo update thing found other website ).

brings me actual question (i gave history others can learn lesson being noob 1 should not try act smart ), how can go same boot options there when when alright i.e. turn on pc , black screen comes showing 2 options timer i.e. ubuntu , windows 7 , there can choose os want log into.

though booting fine both os', issue turn pc on, straight away go grub screen, there show boot options, select windows loader sda1 , again black screen appear timer asking me choose between ubuntu or win 7 , when select win 7 take me windows.

want make right , normal.

in advance.

p.s sorry long post, wanted share entire thing, may save others.

here's boot info of laptop:
