Thread: HP Deskjet 3050 install as network

new printer having lots of trouble getting going. new hp deskjet 3050 all-in-one j610a. printer requires usb connection , software connect connect wireless network. installation cd ms/mac, no go. have tried hp-setup , have had bizarre results. here steps , results:
  1. hp-setup
  2. click "wireless/802.11 (requires temporary usb connection , available select devices)" "next"
  3. wireless (wifi/802.11) configuration, click "next"
  4. select discovered wireless capable devices: device listed , highlighted. click "next"
  5. new window: i/o error ocurred. please check usb connection printer , try again. (device i/o error)


saw somewhere add user group lp, did. ideas out there?

two things ...

have networked hp printer (8510) , not allow both network printing , usb connection. found out because when usb connected, went touch panel set networking , got message saying had disconnect usb cable first. need check see if yours has same limitation.

second, set mine using cups. open browser , enter "localhost:631" use option add printer -- , should page showing detected network printers. if yours in on page, follow through menus , install it.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
