just upgraded 11.10 and, when need break, go pogo play few games. problem of games "locking up". example: playing 3 peaks solitaire may move many 6 cards before locks , no further movement takes place. dump out, go in, try again , same problem.

looked elsewhere , saw several references java 6 update 23 being 1 needed saw several references security holes in , no longer offered work ubuntu.

aware of replacement workable @ same abilities of java 6 update 23? have iced tea 6 web start , runtime. alternatives work right?

also, still "learning" how 11.10 set regarding applications don't see "synaptics" available anywhere, software center. entire offer of available programs or there need offered in synaptics?

synaptic package manager shud ther... humm

if not search 'synaptic' in software center , should come up. both use same source of software. reason people advice synaptic package manager because software center hides complex stuff user (making friendlier) need see complex stuff, synaptic comes in.

both use "repositories" list software, if isnt in software center repo problem , synaptic wont fix it...

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
