Thread: server 11.10 w/ VirtualBox, network design and BIND quesitons

alrighty, first i'll start i'm trying run multiple ubuntu server vms on virtualbox host machine. want each of vms main /www/ folder accessible it's own subdomain under host machines main domain.

understand can create virtual servers on host machine achieve same thing without need vms, i'm running other applications need own host. anyways, host machine runs bind, apache, tomact6, etc. have set nicely vms , shared folders in virtualbox. have installed webmin on host machine read through webmin link on sticky, although set through command line doesn't scare me. vms pretty run apache, tomcat6, , couple media servers use.

i'm stuck getting subdomains /www/ folder accessible via hostx.example.com possible via dyndns? possible dyndns route example.com public ip, have queries appropriate subdomains handled host machines dns server?

have port xxxx external routed port 80 internal ip of host server. know isn't @ preffered setup, need working on residential account smooth before purchasing business account web hosting. i've done via webmin create master zones example.com , hostx.example.com. in master zone example.com i've made records ns1, ns2, www, point external ip. 1 hostx.example.com pointing it's internal ip. in master zone hostx.example.com i've created records hostx.example.com , www pointing hostx's internal ip.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
