Thread: Setting up a network printer

i trying setup brother 4100 fax/printer connected single port star tech usb print server. printer wizard finds printer it's ip adddress. can't seem print anything.

1. determines name of queue? pick arbitrarily or configured in print server such device's name?
2. on brother website, can choose 4 drivers (lpr , cups, 1 of each deb , 1 of each rpm). how know choose?

the driver deb ( short debian operating system ).

printer connected computer driver loaded onto computer. printer accessed browser.

http://<the-computer-ip-address>:631/printers/<my-printer-name>

cups uses port 631 communicate printer.

single port star tech usb print server have ip address can ping ?
single port star tech usb print server connected computer has ip address can ping ?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
