What zip format does FLA files use, and is there a API for editing them?

i need programmatically modify fla file.  understand kind of zip archive, 7-zip cannot open them @ all, , although winrar , windows explorer open archives, report archive corrupt if try extract or update files.  makes difficult me edit existing fla files.

 

the xfl format not solution.

 

i happy have way modify 1 of xml files in fla file, example perform batch modification of referenced swc component's path (since file name updated, , it's referenced hundreds of fla source documents).

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
